Spelling and grammar errors are the biggest CV mistake, according to surveyA survey of 2,000 employers shows simple steps you can take to keep your CV out of the bin.

The most-hated CV problem was spelling or grammar errors, showing how important it is to check your CV carefully. Ask someone else to take a look at it, too: it's often easier to spot mistakes in someone else's work than in your own.

The survey also revealed how important tone is, with employers unhappy about both overly casual CVs and attempts to impress using jargon. It's also important to choose a clean, readable font, such as Arial, and a professional email address.

Most employers will make a judgement on your CV very quickly, and when there are lots of applicants to look at they're often looking for an excuse to reject you and thin out the pile - so it's vital to make a good first impression if you want your application to get the attention it deserves.
