Do you need to be posh to get ahead?A survey shows that many people think your background plays a big part in whether you can find work experience.

The survey found that a quarter of young people believe that having a double-barrelled surname or will help you to get a work placement, while one in six said that your accent is important. Unfortunately, they might have a point: people who had gone to private schools were twice as likely to be doing work experience in London, while 72% of people from 'privileged backgrounds' said they had used family connections to get a placement.

But being posh is far from the only way to find work experience. Find out how to build up a network of contacts, find work experience placements and solve a lack of experience on your CV.
