Why is she famous?

Susan Powell is a weather forecaster for the BBC. She broadcasts on BBC News 24, BBC One, BBC World, BBC Radio Four and BBC Radio Five Live.

Susan was born in Herefordshire and studied chemistry at the University of Swansea. She stayed on to complete a doctorate in engineering in conjunction with steel maker Corus. Following this she went travelling visiting South Africa, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and the United States. On her travels she went skiing, swam with sharks, dived and met friends. On her return she worked for Corus before joining the Met Office as a trainee Broadcast meteorologist.

Following intensive training she joined the BBC Weather centre in April 2001, presenting her first broadcast in November 2001. Her interests include DIY, cooking, travel, skiing and keeping fit.
